Vitamins and Minerals - Are Your Getting the Most from Your Nutritional Supplements

April 27th, 2008 by admin

Whether you eat a healthy diet or supplement your diet with nutritional supplements
such as vitamins and minerals, you might not be receiving the nutrients you think
you are getting. Why, because of a condition called malabsorption.

But what exactly is malabsorption? Very simply, it is the inability of the
intestine to absorb one or more nutrients from your diet. These nutrients includes
fat, carbohydrate, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Malabsorption is not a
disease in and of itself, but a symptom of an underlying defect in some part
of the digestive system.

Malabsorption can be caused by many things such as disease of stomach, pancreas,
liver, and intestine. However, the most common causes are congestion of the
gallbladder and clogging of surface used for absorption in the intestine due to
compaction of fecal waste. While these conditions can occur in at any age, they
are most commonly seen in older adults and seniors.

But what exactly are the causes of gallbladder congestion and compaction of
the intestine? They are almost always caused by lack of maintenance of the colon
and gallbladder. Yes, you can maintain your colon and gallbladder. How? By doing
a colon cleanse and gallbladder flush. These natural remedies are alternative
medicine to harsh laxative and gallbladder surgery and can spare you from colon
cancer and a host of other chronic diseases.

Part of the process of digestion, is the mixing of your food with bile, which
helps the body digest fats. Bile is stored in the gallbladder and is made from
cholesterol, bile salts and bilirubin. If the bile contains too much of any of
these substance, under certain conditions it will get harden into stones. Because
gallstones are just harden bile, they accumulate in the gallbladder.

Over time, the quantity of these stones increases and takes up most, if not all
the space in the gallbladder. When this happens, your gallbladder becomes so
congested that there is no place to store new bile made by the liver. Since your
body needs bile to help you digest fat and absorb nutrients such as vitamins and
minerals, gallbladder congestion results in malabsorption.

The final stage of digestion is the absorption of nutrients through the wall of
the intestine and colon. Unfortunately, for many people, the colon and small intestine
does not work efficiently, mainly due to poor diet and lack of maintenance.
Over the years, the walls of the colon and small intestine can become encrusted
with compacted waste. This clogs most of the surface area of the intestine
that is used for the absorption of nutrients. The result, depending of the degree
of encrustation, is your body’s inability to absorb vitamins, minerals and other
nutrients from your diet.

Because both gallbladder congestion and intestinal compaction are accumulative,
they are, therefore, both progressive with age. Consequently most adults will have
some kind problems absorbing nutrients - whether from foods or nutritional
supplements. These conditions progressively get worse with age until the ability to
absorb nutrients such as vitamins and minerals is almost completely lost. This is why
older people tend to be much thinner, since they can hardly absorb fats or any other
nutrients for that matter from their diet.

Malabsorption generally affects people in their fifties and older. This can be a
serious problem for people with osteoporosis and bone density disease. These
individuals usually take some form of calcium supplement or medication to help control
this health condition. But minerals, such as calcium, need other nutrients such as
vitamin D to be properly absorbed in the body. Therefore, these individuals are unable
to get the calcium they need, not only because they can’t absorb calcium, but because
they cannot absorb the support nutrients needed for its proper assimilation in their
bodies.

What does this means to you? Well depending on your degree of malabsorption, if
you take nutritional supplements like vitamin and minerals, you could be pouring
money down the drain, or should I say, down the toilet. Individuals who have done
gallbladder flush or colon cleansing, have reported starting to really experience
the benefits they expected from their vitamins and minerals supplements.

So next time you take a nutritional supplement, consider the possibility that you
may not be getting your money’s worth. If you feel like you are not, you have two
choices. You can either take more than the recommended dose in the hope of getting
close to what your body really need. Or you can boost you body ability to absorb
nutrients by getting yourself a colon cleanse as well as a gallbladder flush.

Vitamin Supplement Necessity

April 21st, 2008 by admin

The human body needs various substances put into it to help it maintain homeostasis. The substances that we take to help even out our nutritional needs are called supplements because they are taken in addition to what we get from our daily intake of food. It has become quite popular to use supplements both to maintain good health and to make changes in the functions of the body. But the question of whether or not they are needed and what they actually do to the body is often brought up.

One needs to understand the reasons for taking supplements so that any concerns can be put to rest. Often, the daily meals we consume do not meet all the body’s needs for various nutrients and supplements can help to balance these out. So the first thing that should be done is to research what types of nutrients are needed and whether or not they are being consumed in the amounts necessary for optimum health. This will help you figure out what supplements are possibly needed. It will also help prevent the consumption of more supplements than are needed which can cause problems in the body.

Supplements are an important tool that can help with medicating yourself to help heal an illness. Many times illnesses will occur more often and can last longer if the proper nutrients are not taken into the body. Taking vitamin supplements can be a simple way to help your body rebalance itself and keep the immune system at a level that will be able to fight off sickness or disease.

Some people desire to help their bodies to keep from aging too quickly and they use supplements for this purpose. Nutrients, muscle mass and bone density are often lost at a faster rate as people get older. These changes in people’s body systems cause a greater need for nutrients to be a part of a daily intake which can be assisted by taking vitamin supplements. The natural nutritional values are easier to maintain that way and this can be of help to the body.

It is always a good idea to ask a doctor or other professional about the need for taking various supplements. While the body does need a good balance of vitamins and other nutrients, some can get these by eating a very well-balanced diet. If those people would use supplements, then their systems would be unbalanced and not functioning properly. So be sure to keep track of what your body needs to stay healthy at different ages and also know what you are eating. Have a professional help you decide what you are lacking, if anything.

When you first begin to use supplements, allow for time for the body to get used to the extra nutrients by working up to your recommended amount gradually. A good rule of thumb would be to begin by taking approximately one half of what you plan on taking eventually. Be sure to consult with a professional if you are currently taking other medications and find out if there will be any problems with the medications and the supplements working together. Also, it is necessary to make sure your functioning levels are normal, particularly in the area of blood pressure. This will help to prevent problems which can be caused due to the change in nutrient levels.

Your body systems can function properly more easily when you have the right amounts of nutrients as part of your regular diet. Vitamins and other supplements may play an important role in reaching this goal. But it is always better to make sure you have a properly balanced system and know what, if any, supplements you need before putting yourself on a vitamin or other supplement regime. Your unique needs are essential to establish before making the decision to try one of the many different supplements that are so popular today.

Pharmaceutical Grade Vitamins vs. Regular Vitamins

March 8th, 2008 by admin

Vitamins are necessary for human life and health. They are required in minute amounts, and with the exception of Vitamin B12, cannot be manufactured in your bodies. These organic compounds need to be obtained from diet, and if deprived of a particular vitamin, you will suffer from disease specific to that vitamin. It is a matter of record that you are not getting enough vitamins. Though we Americans are living longer, our quality of life leaves much to be desired.

The thirteen different vitamins are classified into two main categories:
