How To Cut The Cost of Feeding Your Family in Half And Eat Better

May 2nd, 2008 by admin

After more than 30 years of practiced shopping to save money, My wife and I can truly
claim victory. Having produced 3 boys early, we had to find ways to feed all five of us
with the best food for the least amount of money, since my wife stayed home with the
children (most of the time), so there was only one paycheck.

A few basic suggestions:

1- Buy “store brand” name whenever possible.

2- buy as little “prepared” foods as is possible.

3- Keep stock of these low-cost and high nutritional value foods:

Pasta, dried beans and rice.

4- Also, purchase “keepers”, such as Sweet and White potatoes.

5- Set some time aside for bulk meal preparation that can be frozen for later use when time is more critical.

How you prepare your food stocks will also contribute to your monthly food expense since
your cooking costs are part of your food bill. Some suggestions here might not be so obvious, such as using your microwave, assuming your have one, instead of your stove top
or oven, be it gas or electric. Most people do not realize that stove top cooking can be
3 or more times more expensive than using your microwave and that the specific savings depends on the make and model of the electric or gas stove you use and the size of the microwave. In most cases, the cost saving switching the greater part of preparing your
meals to the microwave will be very noticeable after the first month.

============================================================

A great family cost savings meal !

Combination Stove top, Microwave cooking…
Here is how to enjoy Oriental Rice at less than 25% the cost of your favorite restaurant.

place 2 cups long grain white rice in 4-quart pyrex container.
Add 3 cups water (2 3/4 cup for slightly firmer rice)
With Microwave set on High, set timer to 20 minutes
Start Microwave and run for first 15 minutes uncovered.
Place cover over container and run for the 5 remaining minutes.
Stir and fold rice gently to aerate.

To cooked rice, add:
Add 1 Tbls. Soy sauce, 1 Tsp. Garlic powder and 1 Tsp. Sesame seed oil

In large frying pan or Wok:
Stir fry
1 medium Green Pepper(chopped coarse)
1 medium Onion(chopped coarse)
1 8-oz. can, or 8 oz. fresh sliced Mushrooms
1 8-oz. pack bean sprouts
1 Tbls. Peanut oil
Those with preference can stir fry shrimp, cubed pork, or chicken in 8-oz helpings and
add to above.

Add to rice preparation and fold well.
Add more Soy sauce and Sesame seed oil as needed.

================================================================

Recipe above can use spaghetti in place of rice for an oriental Lomaine touch and sprinkling
finished platter with chopped scallions in an amount to your likings.

Using this simple approach with a family of five and improving on it daily could put $300-$400 extra in your budget every month.

The Perfect Meal to Boost Your Health

April 26th, 2008 by admin

Good nutrition is vital to a strong and healthy mind and body. It’s true what they say - you are what you eat.

This statement points out very effectively that if you feed your body with low nutritional and sugary garbage, your body has nothing to work with and you’ll end up eventually feeling like garbage.

On the other hand, if you nourish your body with food that is packed with nutrients such as vitamins, fiber, healthy fats, whole grains and omega-3’s, you’ll notice a huge difference in how you look and feel…especially if you make this type of food a dietary habit.

Right now we’re at a crossroad - we know we should be eating better, but there are so many restaurants available offering “bad” food and it’s making the obesity rate skyrocket. Even restaurants that offer fish platters and other health-conscious meals end up not so good because of the amount of calories you ingest between the bread, large portions and dessert.

You have two options:

1. Stay away from fast rood restaurants - and when you eat out at restaurants, be strict about what you eat. Stay away from the bread and don’t finish everything on your plate…bring the rest home for a meal you can eat the next day.

2. Make a meal at home yourself using ingredients you buy at the grocery store, not frozen entrees.

The focus of this article is on number two because by making your own meal, you can control exactly what goes into it. The end result is a meal that you know is nutritious and NOT packed with health-deteriorating ingredients.

Here’s an example of the perfect meal you can make at home. It has everything you need for better health.

What you’ll need is:

1 9-10 ounce bag of baby spinach
1 can of wild Alaskan pink salmon
1-2 teaspoons of olive oil
1-2 teaspoons of balsamic vinegar
1/2-3/4 cup of brown rice

Here’s a breakdown of each food’s health benefits:

Spinach - this green leaf is packed with phytonutrients, vitamins and fiber - and it’s low in calories.

Wild Alaskan Pink Salmon - yes, canned! It tastes better than you think. The reason this is recommended is because the food is a powerhouse of good fats, protein and omega-3’s and is low in calories and carbohydrates. The salmon you would normally buy is potentially high in mercury, which is bad. This Wild Alaskan form is free of mercury…and it’s inexpensive.

In case you’re wondering, Omega-3’s are vital for healthy weight loss, brain health and a healthy cardiovascular system.

Olive Oil - full of good fat which your body does need. When you buy olive oil, make sure it’s 100% authentic. Some brands are now mixing olive oil with refined oils…the end result is olive oil, but not really.

Balsamic Vinegar - vinegar reportedly controls your blood sugar level when eating which is important for overall health. Furthermore, it gives the meal more taste.

Brown Rice - whole grains are full of vitamins and fiber. Check out Uncle Ben’s instant brown rice…it’s pretty good and quick to make.

Making the meal is easy. You simply lay the spinach out on a platter- you can more or less use however much you want- and drizzle 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the spinach.

Let this sit for 10 minutes or so- this gives the spinach a chance to soak up the oil and vinegar. While this is sitting, cook the brown rice and open up the can of salmon.

When ready, simply spread the salmon over the spinach and put the brown rice either on the side or in a separate bowl.

And now the best part of all - ENJOY!

This meal will take you 15 minutes max to make and each bite will nourish your body from the inside out. And once you get used to eating healthy, you’ll find yourself experimenting with all types of different meals.

This article shared with you one example of a perfect meal, but there are many many more!

How to Stop Running to Your Doctor with Health Problems

April 10th, 2008 by admin

Hey there,

Have you been seeing your doctor a little too much lately? Headaches here, chest pains there..shortness of breath, feeling weak, dizzy, and lethargic.

A nasty virus going around?

Not likely.

Something you caught from your kids?

Probably not.

Well, what is it?

Would you believe (and you should) that it could be that you’re overweight and/or out of shape?

“No way, it can’t be!” you say..I mean you’re supposed to drag yourself throughout the day eating chips, drinking caffeine laced beverages, and exercising your fingers on the keyboard.

“That’s how life supposed to be”..you say, work like crazymake as much money as possible regardless of the health risksretire (while being overweight and out of shape) and spend a good amount of your retirement visiting your local doctor and hospital waiting for that new breakthrough surgery to suck up all that fat from your arteries. Unfortunately, this is often true of many people nowadays. How can you possibly stop this and decrease the possibility (exponentially, I might add) that you have to spend your retirement years pitching a tent at your doctor’s office.

Get moving.

Start a fitness program..try to do a pushup (you should be able to do more than 1, by the way)take a brisk walk around the neighborhood..take a jog with your dog up and down the street..try to do 10 crunchesjust start something! More importantly, stick with it.

That’s all you need..just 2 little things.

Start with something.and stick with it.

2 simple, yet powerful actions. In fact, they’re so powerful that if you did these two little things, you would be in better shape than most people in the world!

You want to know a little secret?

Open your ears and pay attention.

Your doctor doesn’t want to see you. In fact, they are sick of seeing you..they would rather be playing golf.lol. But do you want to know why they have to keep long hours and spend minimal time with patients?

Because we are getting fatter and unhealthier by the day. Which equals more health problems, which equals more doctor visits, more hospital visits, more tests (very costly I might add), more x-rays, more surgeries, etc. etc. etc.

How many hundreds and thousands of dollars are you and your family spending on unnecessary health bills? Instead of chewing on a Twinkie.chew on that thought for a while.

What would you rather have with all that extra money: a new car, a house that’s paid off, a vacation home, a boat?

Wow.

Living healthier, looking leaner, feeling younger and more energized while pocketing extra money from saved doctor bills and surgeries.

Where do you sign up?

Not at your local McDonald’s or Burger King.

Nor at your local greasy spoon restaurant.

You sign up by making a commitment to change your lifestyle. Hey, maybe that’s not what you are wanting to hear, but it’s true. You and only you, (with some help from me, of course) can make that change.

What’s the great thing about it?

So many people have tried and succeeded by doing it the right way, and you can too! It may take some time, it will take some discipline, heck, it may even take some sacrifices.but you will get so excited when you look at yourself in a mirror and see a leaner, fitter, healthier you.

Save money, save insurance company hasslesand for goodness sakes start a fitness program. I may not be able to help you have a body like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie by next week.but listen to me and you can at least save enough money to take everyone you know to see all of their movieslol. Actually, with your savings on doctor’s visits..you’ll have way more money than that.

In closing, you can choose one of two things.

1. Making a change to commit to a healthier lifestyle, a more balanced diet, and a fitness program that will lead to greater physical fitness, mental health and wellness, endurance (use your imagination), less doctor visits (when they are practically pushing you out the door anyway), less chances for heart attacks, strokes, surgeriesAND more money in your pocket from saving yourself from these expenses.

VERSUS

2. A diet filled with fats, lard, cholesterol, unlimited carbonated beverages, “diet” drinks (that always gets a chuckle out of me), days of feeling weak, depressed, and lethargic. Let’s not forget a greater than average number of doctor visits, greater chance for health-related surgeries, greater chance for injuries (if and when you decide to get off your butt and do something), combined with looking less attractive to yourself and your significant other (or potential significant other), WHILE wasting money on all of these things.

Quite the laundry list, huh?

I don’t know about you, but I take #1 11 times out of 10. And, if I were you, I would think long and hard about making a change to #1 too.

You can do it, I am here to help. And if you can handle even more fitness strategies for you and your family, go to www.fitnesswithchris.com and check out what I’ve got in store for you. Have a great day!
